Tanir Bavi Power Barge - Mangalore, Karnataka, India
Power Plant Barge in India
The Tanir Bavi Power Project is a 220 MW barge-mounted power plant. The barge consists of 4 LM6000 gas turbines, 4 OTSG's and a single steam turbine. The barge (106m long, 55m wide and 6m draft) was built by Hyundai Engineering and Construction in Korea.
Upon completion of the initial assembly and checkout of major components, the barge was dry towed by a self propelled mother vessel to Mangalore, India through the Arabian Sea. It was then wet towed up the Gurpur River and moored at the project site in a protected basin.
The primary gas turbine fuel is Naptha, with the electrical generation being sold to the Karnataka State Electricity Board.
Sterling Energy, assisted by a small team of the Owner's human resources and administrative personnel, recruited the entire team for the plant. The hiring was done in a two-phased approach, with the management team coming aboard for management systems orientation and training several weeks prior to the start of the balance of the plant staff.
The staff participated in the check out and commissioning of barge systems while it was in Korea, and after it arrived Mangalore. The team was also actively involved in the checkout and commissioning of the on-shore systems, including water treatment plant, circulating water system, fuel storage and handling, and fire protection systems.
As part of the senior management training program, Sterling Energy conducted a Plant Manager Skills Enhancement Course, which included a "best practices" tour of highly successful projects. The tour allowed the Plant Manager to see existing plants where effective management programs have been put into place, and how these programs could be adapted for the project.
Sterling Energy assisted with the startup testing and operations through Simple Cycle operations. As is our normal practice, Sterling Energy drafted and managed the Management Plan for the mobilization and for the first operating year.
Sterling Energy had full responsibility for establishing this new, freestanding, operating entity. Our O&M mobilization program scope of work included:
